At Temple, we believe that Jesus calls every believer to be a missionary. Together, we are to “go into the world and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19) God has called each of us to live out the Great Commission and he has called us to use our gifts and resources corporately in this glorious cause of making disciples.
We have developed a plan to fulfill local-global missions initiatives and partnerships. There are five ways we engage the world to practice good deeds and proclaim the gospel: (1) church planting, (2) evangelize the world, (3) aiding the poor and the sick, (4) caring for the orphan and the oppressed, and (5) equipping leaders. We summarize our global plan with the acronym “P.E.A.C.E.”:
P – Plant Churches
Tim Keller is correct when he says that “The first key to any effective ministry is a firm grasp on the gospel’s uniqueness and ability to continually revitalize people and communities.” Church planting is the most effective way to grow the Body of Christ and to make disciples.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)
E – Evangelize the World
Alvin Reid has defined evangelism as “the communication of the gospel by saved people to lost people.” Our desire is to equip our church to be effective communicators of the gospel so that our daily encounters will include sharing the “good news” with those who need to hear.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:8)
A – Aid the Poor and the Sick
There are over 2,000 scriptures concerning Gods heart for the poor and His expectation of compassion and obedience from his church. Our hearts should be burdened for the things that burden God’s heart. We know that care and compassion for the poor and sick are close to God’s heart.
“Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.” (Matthew 5:42)
C – Care for the Orphan and the Oppressed
There are more than 143 million orphans in the world right now. The Bible mentions caring for widows and orphans over 40 times. God’s plan for meeting the needs of these that are the least capable of taking care of themselves, is the church.
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” (James 1:27)
E – Equip Leaders
Our goal is to teach and equip leaders who share a passion to see God glorified and Christ exulted around the world.
“As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)
We want to help equip you to fulfill your role as a missionary in the culture. We want to live out this plan daily and also take trips throughout the year to live it out globally.
May God’s grace and peace be with us as we seek to live out the Great Commandments and the Great Commission, for the glory of Christ and the good of a hurting world.
